And with a rough-and-tumble Texas style, he got things done. He also proposed to Lady Bird Taylor on their first date. Well educated for a woman of her time, Lady Bird was a force in her own right. A businesswoman and activist, she stood by the president through many successes and during the darker era of the war in Vietnam.
