Hurricane Ian Update #6

Hurricane Ian is currently battering the Florida Peninsula with catastrophic storm surge, winds and flooding.

Hurricane Ian is currently located about 5 miles east of Punta Gorda and about 120 miles south/southwest of Orlando. Hurricane Ian is moving at 8 mph with maximum sustained winds of 140 mph.

A Hurricane Warning is in effect for Sebastian Inlet to Flagler/Volusia County Line. A Storm Surge Warning is in effect for Flagler/Volusia Line to the mouth of the South Santee River. A Hurricane Watch is in effect for Flagler/Volusia County Line to the South Santee River.

 

Community Updates:            

  • Volusia County has issued a curfew from 8 p.m. tonight until 7 a.m. tomorrow as well as 8 p.m. Thursday to 7 a.m. Friday. We ask that all residents remain in their homes this evening.
  • Breakfast is scheduled to be served in the Grill on Thursday from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. weather permitting.
  • Lunch and dinner will be served buffet style in SH Cranes on Thursday from noon to 5 p.m.
  • We recommend that residents get their meals early tomorrow as weather conditions may worsen throughout the day.
  • John Knox Village is sheltering guests at Majestic Oaks from a west coast facility that was required to evacuate.
  • We are also sheltering 29 staff members in the Barker Center.
  • Please take caution tonight as weather conditions are expected to worsen throughout the night. Should you lose power, do not use candles.
  • Should wind speeds exceed 30 mph residents should remain in their homes. We will provide notice of when to stay in as well as when it is clear to leave your home.

 

Staffing Update #3

  • Breakfast for staff working during the hurricane is scheduled to be served in the Barker Center tomorrow from 7:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m.
  • Lunch will be available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Scoop or 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Barker Center.
