Tropical Storm Elsa Update
Currently located near the south coast of Cuba, Tropical Storm Elsa is moving northwest at 14 mph with maximum sustained winds of 65 mph. This general motion is expected to continue today, followed by a turn toward the north-northwest on Tuesday. Elsa is expected to move across central and western Cuba later today and pass near the Florida Keys early Tuesday. Elsa is then forecast to move near or over portions of the west coast of Florida on Tuesday and Wednesday.
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the Florida Keys from Craig Key westward to the Dry Tortugas as well as on the west coast of Florida from Flamingo northward to Suwannee River, including Tampa Bay.
A Storm Surge Watch has been issued along the west coast of Florida from Bonita Beach to the Ochlockonee River.
The Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for the Florida Keys from east of Craig Key to Ocean Reef, Florida Bay, and along the coast of the Florida panhandle from Suwannee River westward to Indian Pass, Florida.
John Knox Village can continue to expect tropical storm-force winds Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning as tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 70 miles from the center of the storm. Continued rain is expected across Florida and Coastal Georgia through Wednesday which may result in flooding.
