Tropical Storm Elsa Update

Downgraded to Tropical Storm Elsa, a Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for portions of the Florida Keys. Tropical Storm Elsa is currently located 50 miles north of Kingston Jamaica with maximum sustained winds of 60 mph. Tropical Storm Elsa continues to move west/northwest at 13 mph. Tropical Storm force winds extend outward up to 115 miles from the center of the storm.

A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for the Florida Keys from Craig Key westward to the Dry Tortugas.

A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for the Florida Keys from Craig Key eastward to Ocean Reef, including Florida Bay.

A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for the southwest coast of Florida from Flamingo northward to Bonita Beach.

Additional watches and warnings for Florida will likely be issued later today by the National Weather Service as a turn toward the northwest is expected later today or tonight. Elsa is expected to pass near the Florida Keys late Monday, then move near or over the west coast of Florida on Tuesday or Wednesday. Strengthening is expected today and tonight as Elsa approaches the south-central coast of Cuba. Gradual weakening is forecast to occur Monday when Elsa moves across Cuba. Re-strengthening is possible as Elsa emerges over the Florida Straights and the southeastern Gulf of Mexico.

John Knox Village can expect to see Tropical Storm-force winds as early as Tuesday morning along with continued rain for the next several days.
