From groceries and prescriptions to pet supplies and household essentials, today’s world is designed for delivering everything we need right to our doors. For older adults, John Knox Village of Central Florida offers that same convenience for what matters most—reliable, compassionate care at home. We’re proud to offer Home Healthcare services with 24/7 personalized support for residents of our Orange City senior living community, as well as local seniors—allowing them to stay independent, safe, and comfortable at home.
Assistance with Living, Not Assisted Living
Seniors who needed a little extra help traditionally had two primary choices: Move in with a family member or transition to a care community that offers assisted living or skilled nursing. Both options often presented emotional and logistical challenges for caregivers and older adults who were determined to stay in the place they felt most comfortable—at home. Communities like John Knox Village saw the need for another option and answered the call. Whether it’s short-term recovery after a surgery or hospital stay or longer-term daily support, the goal of our extended Home Healthcare is simple: helping seniors stay in their homes longer.
According to Michael Buxton, director of operations at John Knox Village, the trend toward aging in place is only growing. “After the pandemic, we really saw the demand for in-home healthcare pick up,” he says. “Some people just need help with showering, bathing, or medication management. That’s not really a reason to move into assisted living or skilled nursing care. Although we provide both, we asked ourselves, ‘What kind of service can we offer to help residents stay at the highest level of care as long as possible—in their homes?’”
The answer was our Home Healthcare program, which is focused on healing, curing, supporting, restoring, and maintaining the health and independence of seniors.
Care Built on Connections
When it comes to in-home care, John Knox Village stays close to—well—home. Unlike many communities that use outside care providers for their in-home services, all our Home Healthcare services are provided by our staff, who see folks out in the community every day and understand the importance of that socialization. “The most rewarding part of my job is when an active, healthy person needs more care due to an accident or illness, and our caregivers play a big role in getting them back to where they were,” Michael says.
Our team is made up of caring professionals, including CNAs, home health aides, therapists, and others who are trained in healthcare—and experts in compassion. They build relationships and get to know folks personally, focusing on any needs they may have currently and anticipating ones down the road. “It usually starts small, maybe with medication management or just physical or occupational therapy,” Michael shares. “Then maybe they’ll add a couple of hours a day to help with activities of daily living—getting up in the morning, taking a shower. Over time, services may increase as needed.”
Extended Care to the Extended Community
While our Home Healthcare services are primarily provided to John Knox Village residents, we also offer this same 24/7 in-home care to seniors in the surrounding community. Many are referred by physicians, social workers, or family friends who know the reputation and reach of John Knox Village.
“We’re a well-known name in this region,” Michael explains. “People may not know exactly what goes on behind our gates, but they’ve heard from neighbors, coworkers, or family about the high quality of care we provide.”

24/7 In-Home Care. 100% Peace of Mind.
What is the biggest gift our Home Healthcare gives families? Peace of mind. Whether you live nearby or across the country, knowing someone is there to help your loved one live safely, communicate any concerns effectively, and stay connected means everything. We offer primary caregivers a helping hand should they have other responsibilities, fall ill, or need respite; we also provide family members with real-time updates on their loved ones’ well-being.
“Sometimes it’s not just about the person receiving care,” Michael says. “It’s also about supporting the spouse or family member who’s been trying to do it all alone.”
