Ink, glass, watercolor, oil paint, tempera, bronze, and marble are just a few common artistic mediums. At John Knox Village of Central Florida creatives arts does not stop there!
Within our gates reside residents that display their creative side throughout our Village through photography, knitting, crocheting and quilting, work working and wood turning, dance and music just to name a few.
Don’t have a talent, but always wanted to set your creativity free? With a dedicated arts and crafts studio conveniently located in the center of the Village, The Studio is home to a variety of arts and crafts activities for John Knox residents.
Thoughtfully designed by a team of residents in conjunction with resident services staff, The Studio is an open space divided into centers so that a resident may participate in an activity while a different activity is occurring in another center.
The largest center is for “classroom instruction” by a resident or visiting instructor. When a formal class is not in session, the space can be used by residents for a variety of individual projects. Instruction and projects offered include acrylic painting, watercolor, charcoal, pastel and pencil drawings, colored inks, collage creating as well as photography.
A fiber art center supports the creation of works of art using a combination of natural materials including cotton, linen, wool, yarns, hemp, silk rayon, and ribbon with opportunities for quilting, weaving, knitting, crocheting and sewing. Weaving and Kumihimo (Japanese braiding) offer the opportunity to create a wide range of textiles including mug rugs, pillows, scarves, wall hangings, and bracelets. Basketry, beadwork, embroidery, cross stitch, and needlepoint classes are also being planned.
The third center, offers individual as well as group activities for residents seeking to work with glass through stained glass, glass etching and mosaics.
Card making is the focus of the fourth center, which extends the opportunity for residents to create a personalized card for that special someone in their life, utilizing a variety of craft techniques.
There’s no shortage of residents on hand to provide a tip or a trick on any chosen medium.
